There are 500,000 diagnosed Coeliacs in this country. There are also all those people who are wheat intolerant or think they are who would benefit from gluten free, wheat free, food. Coeliac UK did a survey of all their members and the no. 1 priority was “influencing the food industry – 67%”.
About G-F Meals
My background
I am a diagnosed Coeliac and have run a charity for Coeliacs for the past 4 years and so am aware of how difficult it is to get a quick safe snack for lunch or something quick, filling and safe to eat at any other time during the day.
Eating out in cafes
There are many products on the market now for Coeliac or wheat intolerant people to eat at home but there seems to be a lack of suitable products available in cafes and coffee houses. Most Coeliacs who eat out in restaurants are prepared phone ahead to ascertain whether something can be specially made or adapted to suit a Coeliac. In the case of a cafe this is not really that feasible so I have found some products and presented them to some cafes to try and remedy this situation. I am hoping this will highlight the as yet untapped market and gradually there will be more and more sealed and safe products available for us to eat as a lunch or quick snack. At the moment the products are quiche, pasty and cakes.
How it works
I link the cafés I have supplied with gluten free products to my website which in turn will be linked to Coeliac uk website and other websites, lactose intolerant, wheat intolerant. In this way we can ensure Coeliacs will be able to find where they can buy a lunch or a snack.
The cafe will have the option of putting a poster on the window of the cafe to say they have G-F Meals available.
